Staycation in Odense

The Shopping Street

Odense is famous for its cozy shopping street with a lot of cafés and small side streets. A stop on one of the streets nice cafés is an obvious choice after a long day of walking. There is a short distance from the shopping street to H. C. Andersen’s neighbourhood where H.C. Anderden’s childhood home is located which gives a presentation of his childhood.

 

Sankt Knuds Kirke (in English, St. Canute’s Cathedral) is close located in a short distance from the shopping street. Because of the 63 meter tall tower, the cathedral is one of the tallest buildings in Odense. Brandts Klædefabrik is the central community centre in Odense and is also located in short distance from the shopping street. The shopping street can offer a lot and is always an obvious choice to go visit.

 

H.C. Andersen’s House

You can also visit the new H.C. Andersens House where you will experience an exciting journey through H.C. Andersen’s creative universe and stories. The new museum is a nice combination of architecture and fantasy. Here you can experience the work of H.C. Andersen in a new way through space, light, sound, and scenography.

 

A Walk in Munke Mose

If you want some peace and quiet and watch the beautiful nature on your staycation, a walk in Munke Mose is the obvious choice. The park is beautiful  every day of the year – both in the sun and covered in snow. It is possible to buy a cup of coffee or an ice cream in Aafarten’s kiosk while you enjoy the life in the park.

 

Picnic in Fruens Bøge

Fruens Bøge is the obvious place to go on picnic. You can bring a picnic basket and a blanket and sail with Odense Aafart to Fruens Bøge. Enjoy a nice picnic in the scenic landscape. When you are finished, Odense Aafart can sail you back to Munke Mose where you can have an ice cream or enjoy en nice cup of coffee at one of the cafés in Odense. It is also possible to take the car to Fruens Bøge, if Odense Aafart is not sailing.

 

Habour Bath

If you want to go in the water on you staycation, this is possible in Odense Havnebad, located at Odense Habour. The labour bath is open all year, hence, you can both have a cold shiver in the winter and a nice sunbath in the summer. Odense Havnebad provides changing rooms, showers, toilets, and lockers for your belongings.

 

Skovsøen

The beautiful surrounding around Skovsøren in Fruens Bøge is an obvious opportunity for a walk or having a picnic. It is also possible to buy an ice cream or a cold drink. The nature is beautiful and the atmosphere is cosy. 

Gallerigaden

Because of the many galleries located inNy Vestergade, the street is also called the unofficial street of galleries. It is an obvious opportunity to get to know Odense’s shopping street in a different way on your vacation. The street is very cozy both during the day and at night. During the day you can visit H. J. Hansen who has a huge selection of great wines and is located in an old, beautiful building that is an experience in itself. At night you can look through the windows and enjoy being on vacation.

 

Odense Zoo

Odense Zoo is a cosy zoo where you can get close to animals from all over the world. You can take a tour boat from Munke Mose to Odense Zoo. Efter you visit, you can sail back to Munke Mose. Odense Zoo is a great opportunity regardless if you are travelling with kids or not.
